Here is a great clock for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion or keep for yourself.
A buyer recently selected the item, and USPS took over 3 weeks to deliver when was to be for a b-day present, so returned. Clock is now available again for your buying advantage!
The Hamburg American Clock Co. (HAC) or Hamburg Amerikanische Uhrenfabrik, started in 1876 when one of the Junghan's family members passed and they were in business until 1930 when acquired by the Junghans Co. The original name of the company when set up was Landenburger and Lang and changed to HAC in the 1880s.
This clock is a beautiful oak cased wall clock with beveled glass on the front door. The case appears to be all oak and has the side pieces on the case, so that you can take off to better hear the strike of the clock. There is a piece of molding at the top that broke off on the left side and was re-glued on at some point in the past.
The clock has a tin face on it that is wired to another metal piece behind it. Some loss of the paint on the tin face. The hands match and look appropriate to the clock. The front door is securely attached to the case. The beveled glass in the lower part of the door is intact, no cracks or blistering. The top part of glass over the clock face is flat, not beveled, still in good condition.
Nice wood case on this clock. Some minor crazing, but still has a very nice finish on the oak. No cracked or missing wood case pieces. Beautiful topper that fits in to the top of this case and it does look appropriate
The bottom screws to level the clock on the wall are still there. The latch and eye screw on the door and case are still there and operable. No paper label anywhere on the clock.
The clock and the gong unit has the cross arrow trademark on it for HAC. No numbers on the movement that I can ascertain. This is an 8 day movement. The clock movement has a break up by on the pallet rod that was just repaired and the movement serviced by Clock Doc and this clock is running again. Both springs feel sound when keyed. The clock will come with a wind key. Nice looking metal pendulum bob with a wood stick and what looks to be the appropriate metal hanger. The clock strikes once at the half hour and strikes the hours on the hour. So, this clock is being sold in running and striking condition.
The clock stands 30.75" tall, by 13" across, by 6-7/8" wide. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So, please carefully review all the attached pictures, ask all the questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions!
