Here is a great book about one of the early battles in the Revolutionary War between Britain and the US Colonies for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep it for yourself.
Bunker Hill was written by Samuel Adams Drake. Issued in 1875. The publisher was Nichols & Hall of Boston and the printer was John Wilson & Son of Cambridge.
Great book that was issued for the centennial of this early battle of the Revolutionary War in Boston, MA. This book appears to be a first edition from what I have researched online. Drake did write a number of books about this battle and the Revolutionary War prior to the issue year of 1875 for this book.
A unique part of this book is that it still has the soft cover insert dealing with General Israel Putnam the Commander of Bunker Hill. You will not find both the hard cover book and this insert, both written by Drake together very often. I see no tears, or torn pages in the book or the insert. All of the pages are intact. There are a couple of places at the front of the book and on the front cover of the insert where pencil markings for price or numbers have been made.. I left them as they lie. There are not other handwritten notes or markings in the rest of the book or insert that I can ascertain. There is an owner's label on the inside of the book that says Charles B. Barnes, Boston, Feb 20, 1901. Check out what I found out about the possible owner further in the listing description. No other notes anywhere in the book that I can ascertain. The cover to the insert is a little brittle and you can see where coming apart at the perimeter.
The book is 9-3/8" tall, by 6-1/8" across, by .5" wide. The pamphlet for Putnam is just a little smaller. The book is 76 pages in length. The Putnam pamphlet is 24 pages in length. Brown hardcover with gold colored gilt writing on the front cover and spine. The covers are still securely attached to the spine and the pages are still well bound together.
