Here is a nice old antique violin for your buying consideration. Very unique in that has an oak back, not maple. Also information etched into the inside back of the body of the violin. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself!
Beautiful looking violin here. Not sure when this was made, but appears to have some age to it. There is wording etched into the inside of the back of the body, see pics. Looks to say top all 78 Grain Redwood.
Check out the beautiful one piece back on this violin, very unique and eye catching. There is no maker's label. Has a one piece belly and a one piece. The back appears to be made of oak, which is giving this instrument a lot of weight to it compared to a maple back. Interesting purfling on the front and back as well. The purfling is inlaid, but looks like ebony instead of other woods traditionally used.
Our best guess is that this is an American made violin from the 1800s. Nice inlaid purfling on the belly and back of the violin that is made of what appears to be ebony.
The violin has a one piece belly and one piece back. There are no cracks, or splits on the soundboard/belly of the violin. Some scratching to the belly, see the piece. No issues where the sound post makes contact with the back of the violin. Some discoloration and staining to the finish on the soundboard and back.
Beautiful one piece back to the violin. No cracks or repairs to the back to report to you. Some minor finish loss to the back of the violin.
The sound post is in place, can't guarantee it will be once shipped to you. The beaks are mostly intact, some wear to the ends. The violin is still soundly glued together as are the sides to the soundboard and back. The graining on the violin, along with the varnish give it a great look. F holes are very intricately carved as is the scrolling at the top of the neck.
Nice ebony key board on the violin. The tailpiece is with the violin. No end peg. The nut and saddle are in place. The 4 tuning pegs are with the violin. Tuner peg box is intact, no cracks or repairs. Neck is securely attached to the body of the violin.
As noted before, there is no maker's label in the violin. The violin is 23-1/16" long in total, 13-15/16" long by the body, 8-1/8" wide by lower bout, and 6.5" by the upper bout.
The violin does comes with a vintage hard case. No violin bow comes with this violin. We have many bows for sale separately in our online stores.
This musical instrument is not represented to be in playing condition. There will need to be some refurbishing to the violin to make the instrument playable again (examples - repairs to hairlines on belly, etc). Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
