A nicely done French Fruitwood with Inlay Case Clock for your buying consideration. The wood case is just incredible. Look at the inlay on the front. There is some minor crazing to the finish of the clock, but to me just adds to the beauty. My guess is this clock is from the late 1870s to 1890s, you be the judge. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep it for yourself.
Some folks call this a balloon clock due to the shape of the case. Nice brass ball legs on the clock. Beautiful inlaid wood design of gold and red on the front base of the clock and along the sides of the face. There probably once was a back brass plate that slid into place where the movement is, no longer there. The case shows some lightening on one side, probably from sun exposure.
Nice looking white colored face with black marking. The concave glass over the face is intact, some surface scratching. Nice looking ornate clock hands that match and look appropriate to the clock.
The clock was just serviced by Clock Doc and had a new wind spring put in itl This is a time only clock. Says"Made in France" on the back plate of the brass movement. The clock will come with a vintage wind key. The clock is being sold in running condition.
The clock stands 10-7/8" tall, by 6-3/8" across, by 3-5/9" wide. The clock face is 3.25" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
