Here is a great French clock and garniture set for your buying consideration. Beautiful antique onyx and bronze clock here. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep it for yourself.
The clock and garnitures have a nice onyx/marble cases/bases with brass trim on them. The clock set was made in the 1880s to 1890s period. The clock set has an Art Deco style look to it.
The clock and garnitures all match up. The brass trim on the front of the three piece match up and is all there. Then each case/base has a white and gray marble case.
The clock and garnitures have brass half ball legs. One of the garnitures is missing a leg. The cases for the clock and the candle garnitures are all there. We see no cracks, splits, repairs, or missing pieces to report to you. The clock case is quite intact. Some chipping of the gray stone matter on the right side front. The white marble has some minor chipping on both sides on front where the banding effect is done with the gray stone material. Lots of graining to the stone case which gives the clock set a very rich look.
Beautiful white and black enameled tin face on this clock. Has some writing that cannot make out at the top and then "Perpignan" just below the wind arbors. That is probably the name of the jeweler that originally sold the clock. No cracks or hairlines to the face. The grommets are in place around the wind arbor holes. Black numbering on the face. The black colored hands match and look appropriate to the clock.
The bezel is firmly attached to the case that holds the beveled glass. The glass is in good shape, not cracking or blistering. Some minor surface scratching to the glass on the outside. The metal rear door is also in place and no longer has any fabric on the inside of it.
The one garniture has chipping of the gray marble on the top left. There are brass cups in both of the garnitures. One of the garnitures has another brass piece with a hole in it that fits nicely in the other one to hold a single flower or something else. The garniture missing a brass leg has a chip in the white marble base at the right bottom and the left bottom front/side corner. The second garniture has some chipping on the top back piece, at the back right corner of the back piece, and the front bottom and back side of the white marble.
Both garnitures do not have the topper sitting squarely and to front on the bases. Are angled a little to the right. Did not attempt to correct. Do not see any other cracks or repairs to any of the marble on the garnitures. A very nice example of the workmanship of this French clock maker.
Nice brass movement on this clock. The Clock movement was just serviced by Clock Doc. The clock has a bell chime. Strikes once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. No maker name on the movement which is pretty typical of most French Clocks. There are the numbers "1747" and "48 at the bottom middle of the back plate of the movement. The rear door on the clock is securely attached to the case. The clock comes with a winding key. The pendulum is with the clock. So, selling this clock in running and striking condition.
The clock stands 11.5" tall, by 14.5" across, by 4-3/16" wide. The clock face is 4" across. Each of the garnitures stand 9.25" tall by 4" across, by 3.5" wide. The clock may be partially disassembled (pendulum removed) to more safely ship it to you. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So, please carefully review all the attached pictures, ask all the questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it.
