Nice Vintage Set Thomas Ship's Bell Clock (Time & Strike) for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep it for yourself!
A Buyer recently acquired this clock, so since he did not know how to wind the clock, he did not think it was working. Oiyyy! So, the clock is available again for your buying advantage!
Nice looking wall clock here. Made by the Seth Thomas Company of Thomaston, MA. Have not had the clock long enough to take the clock apart to check to see the serial number of the movement.
Beautiful silver colored tin face on this clock. The numbering and minute markings are impressed into the tin. "Seth Thomas" is noted at the bottom middle the face. Also says' "seven jeweled" and "eight day ship's bell" on the clock face. The hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Has a slow/fast dial on the front of the face and the lever can be seen to make the appropriate adjustment.
The brass case is all there. Has the look of a ship wheel. The spindles are all in place. No dings or dents to the metal case. Does show some minor gold colored lacquer loss to the case. The case has a screw off bezel. The glass is intact, no cracks or blistering to the glass.
The clock has an 8 day mechanical brass movement. The wind springs for the time and strikes feel sound when keyed. The clock will come with a vintage wind key. The clock does the shi's bell strike. Two strikes on every hour for 1, 5, and 9 o'clock. Then two sequences of two strikes at 2, 6, and 10 o'clock. This continues up to 4 sequences of two strikes at 12, 4, and 8 o'clock. A single strike is added to the sequence of the strikes on the half hours. So, the clock is being sold in running and striking condition.
The Seth Thomas Ship's Bell Clock stands 8-1/16" tall, by 8-1/16" across, by 3-11/16" wide. The clock face is 3-5/8" across. A heavy piece, so expect the shipping cost to reflect that. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
As can be expected when dealing with a vintage clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the clock on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy, we are always open to reasonable suggestions! This clock is just waiting for the right collector out there to acquire and refurbish for their collection.
