Here is a great Antique clock for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself.
Beautiful slate and green onyx case on this clock. No cracks, splits or missing pieces. Just some minor chipping along the edges. The clock is French and most likely a Marti, but no such markings to that effect on the movement.
The clock was not running and striking when we picked it up. Our Clock Doc just removed the movement, tank cleaned it and oiled it, The wind springs feel sound when keyed. Does strike as expected. So, we are selling the clock in running and striking condition.
The clock face is just gorgeous and intact. Beautiful incised polished slate clock face with the incised Roman numerals being finished off with a gold colored paint. The gold colored hands match and appear appropriate to the clock. The hands do show some finish loss and the minute hand is a little bent. The rainbow coloring in the middle of the clock face comes off, just did not wipe it down before taking the pics. There then is a gold colored trim plate around the face.
The concave glass and bezel over the clock face look great. The glass is not blistered or cracked. The bezel is securely attached to the clock case.
This clock case is made of marble and nicely polished slate panels. The front of the case has incised flowery designs in the slate with a gold colored paint in the incising. There is a crack in the polished slate front piece below the red marble. The crack runs vertically and was repaired at some point in the past. The rest of the case just has some minor chips, mostly to the corners. Some finish loss to the slate as well. There is a metal flower petal above the clock face. Nice columns on either side of the the clock face. The rear door of the clock case is securely attached
The clock has a nice spring wound brass movement on it. Cannot see a makers name on it. The clock movement looks like a Marti, but again there is no such marking on the movement. The movement has the number "64" on it and a "54" on it behind the gong unit on left side. There is also an "LP on the gong unit. The movement appears to be of French origin. There is an oval impressed on the metal back plate. This is a pendulum run movement.
The clock stands 12.5" tall, by 11-1/16" across, by 6-7/16" wide. This is a very heavy clock, so expect the shipping costs to reflect that. The clock will come with a winding key. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So, please carefully review all the attached pictures, ask all the questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it.
Don't be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions! You can also pick this clock up in Wilmington, DE should you not want to have the clock shipped to you. The clock may be partially disassembled to be more safely shipped to you. So, expect some reassembly.
