Here is a great French carriage clock for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself!
The clock has a porcelain dial. We see a few cracks or hairlines on the face. The face of the clock has black markings for the minutes. The hands on this clock are just beautiful and do match.
The face of the clock has "Robert Sawers, Edinburgh" noted on the face. This is most likely the jeweler that offered this clock for sale in Scotland initially. The clock dates to the 1880s to early 1900s.
Interesting and unique shape to this carriage clock. Most ones are taller than this one. Beautiful brass case on this clock that has darkened with age. The rear door of the case has both hinge pins on it as well as the know.
We have done nothing to clean the case but wipe it down. The front piece of glass over the face is no longer there. The other four pieces of glass are in place. One of the side pieces has a crack at bottom of piece in a corner, that side piece of glass is still all there.
Nice brass movement on this clock. The back of the movement has a full body of the lion on it. The time and strike springs of the movement feel sound when keyed. The key that comes with the clock is two sided and both winds the clock as well as can be used to adjust the hands.
This is a time only carriage clock. Escape wheel is moving smoothly and appropriately when movement is wound. Spring feels sound when keyed. The clock is in running condition.
The clock stands 3.5" tall (4.5" with handle up), by 3.5" across, by 2.25" wide. The clock face is 1-7/8" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the clock on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. This is a special item and I want to make sure it goes to a home that will appreciate it, so looking for serious inquiries only.
