Here is a nice Antique Waterbury Brass Carriage Clock for your buying consideration. Required no servicing, has been running since we acquired it. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself!
This clock is made by the Waterbury Clock Co. of CT. The last patent date on the back plate is June 4, 1907. Has a very unique alarm function as a button on top as part of the alarm process. Think it is to turn the alarm off, which most carriage clocks do not have. This clock is certainly not a Repeater Clock here, there is no strike.
The clock has an enameled metal dial. Has flaking of the paint going on and touched up with paint in other places, where paint is a little lighter than the rest of the face. Says "Jeweled Movement" on the face. The face of the clock has black markings for the minutes and five minute marks. I see no hairline cracks in the clock face. The hands on this clock are appropriate and do match.
Brass case on this clock that has some patina and loss of finish from age. Good looking gold colored lacquer on this clock. Some finish loss, still looks good. The rear door of the case has only one hinge pin in place, the bottom one is missing. The latch on the back door is in place and operates. Back door has a cut-out for the wind key on the alarm.
Did nothing to clean the case but wipe it down. All three pieces of the glass are in place. The front glass is beveled, the two side pieces of glass are flat. The front glass is blistered in the lower left hand corner.
Nice brass movement on this clock. The back of the movement has the name on it. The bottom of the back plate of the clock movement has 4 patent dates noted on it. The wind springs of the movement (time and alarm) feels sound when keyed. A vintage wind key will come with this clock. The clock has been in running condition since we brought it home. Can't say if the alarm function works properly as not sure how it is supposed to work. This is a time only clock, no strike or chime.
The clock stands 4-3/8" tall (4.5" with button on top), by 3-3/16" across, by 2-5/8" wide. The clock face is 1-5/8" across. The clock will come with a vintage wind key. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the clock on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it.
