Here is a nice looking clock with beautiful non-bronze sculpture topper of a woman and a cupid for your buying consideration. Nice antique neoclassical style clock. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! Nice project clock for someone here.
What a nice sized clock and an elegant one as well that this clock is before one even starts to talk about the quality of construction and detailing. The clock probably dates to the 1880s to 1890s based upon the design of the clock movement and the maker.
This clock topper is made of a non-bronze material that then has a gold colored lacquer on it. Then what appears to be a wood base with some sort of veneer on it. The black enamel finish was probably applied since original as well. Some minor chipping to the base at the corners. No cracks or repairs to report to you. The four metal gold colored gilted legs are in place as well.
What is just so eye catching on this clock is the non-bronze topper of a Chevalier or Actor holding some papers. Swords and a mask on the left front of the clock. Some sort of spelter metal topper here, not made of bronze. The detailing of the figural is very well done. Some damage from a tip over to the side of the character's hat and his right leg at the knee. Appears the figural was regilted at some time in the past.
The figurine is securely attached to the rest of the clock. Rear door is still securely in place and has some older fabric in it still.
Beautiful white enameled metal clock face on this clock. No cracks or hairlines to the face. Black colored numbers on the clock face. The clock has black colored hands that match. The minute hand is with the clock, just came off the washer it was affixed to. The washer is still there.
The bezel is firmly attached to the case that holds the beveled glass. The beveled glass is intact, some minor surface scratching. Hinge to bezel needs a little work, bezel not closing all the way. The rear door is a metal bezel with concave glass in it. Someone got a little glue on the glass and bezel when gluing the glass back in place sometime in the past.
Great Japy Freres movement in this clock. The movement has the Japy Freres trademark on it and the number "46".
The clock has a bell chime. Strikes once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. The pendulum is not with the clock. The time and strike springs feel sound when keyed. Pawl not holding time spring in place when wound all the time, so then the hands will spin. The movement could use a good cleaning and servicing.
The clock comes with a wind key. So, without the pendulum, selling this clock in not running and striking condition at this juncture.
The clock stands 13-3/8" tall, by 13.5" across, by 4.25" wide. The clock face is 3.25" across. The clock may be partially disassembled to more safely ship it to you. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
