Here is a nice vintage nautical compass by John Hand & Sons for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion or keep for yourself!

Nice older John Hand & Sons Compass, with metal case and unique concave glass over compass body. The manufacturer resided in Baltimore, MD and Philadelphia, PA. Has the Hand name and locations on the compass rose face and the top of the metal case. Metal plate on the back of the compass is in place and quite legible. One of top rivets is missing. The screwdriver on the ball chain to made adjustments for true north is also still in place.

The compass probably dates to around the World War II, period but no way to be certain with what is here. The compass has fluid inside the metal case. Beautifully detailed compass rose face with the Hand name on it. Has a metal bracket on the bottom of the case to affix in place. Can see where mounted on back where a little rust in place. No dings or dents to the metal case. Some slots on two sides of case the may also be used to hold in place.

The metal case has a black enamel paint on it. "Model No. LMC-101-D" and notes "Approved by the U. S. Coast Guard" All incised into the top of the compass case. Has the serial number of 7308 incised on the top of the metal case as well. Black enamel paint is still on the gimbal and top of the compass case. The compass head appears to float from a center point in the compass rose. The thick concave glass over the compass is intact, no cracking or blistering. Some scratching and minor chipping.

The compass box is 7" tall, by 6/1/16" across, by 7.75" wide. The compass face is 3.75" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions.
