Here is a nice Antique Forestville Column and Cornice Triple Decker Clock for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!
Beautiful Forestville Clock here from Bristol, CT. Made by a clock maker named J C Brown. The clock dates to the 1840s to 1850s period. One of Forestville's early brass 8 day movements here. Some clock makers were still making clock movements with wooden works at this time. Exceptional looking wood case here. Beautiful natural wood colored mahogany columns on each front side of the clock case. Some minor veneer loss in places, see pics.
The clock face door and the pendulum door are securely in place as are the pins that hold them in.
The white, black and green hand painted wood clock face has black roman numerals and detailing on it. The face looks appropriate to the clock. Face shows a little wear to it. The clock hands are nicely detailed and look appropriate to the clock as well.
The brass movement in the clock looks original to the case. Can see Forestville impressed on the front plate of the movement. The case still has remnants of the Forestville paper labels inside the case.
Very nice looking and unique center glass tablet with the elephant design on it. There is some flaking of the paint on the glass tablet. The top piece of clear glass over the clock face. Looks like it has some age to it with waviness to it. The bottom piece is a mirror and shows age and wear, no cracking or blistering.
The clock has one of the older cast iron weights with it, the other weight is not there. The double wood wheels for the cords that go to the weights are in place on each side as is one of the wheels top metal covers. A wind key and a brass pendulum bob that were acquired with the clock come with it. The pendulum rod comes with the clock as has the suspension spring in place.
Nice looking 8 day brass movement here. This movement and case appear to be original to each other. The bell is in place for the strike. The cords and hooks that the weights hang on are in place. Do not want to take a chance on hanging the weights as the cords look a little brittle, and take chance of jeopardizing damage to the beautiful case. So, since not setting the clock up now until serviced by Clock Doc, the clock is being sold in not running and striking condition.
If one of you does not acquire this clock in the near future, it will be going out to Clock Doc for servicing.
The clock stands 32" tall, by 18.5" across, by 5.25" wide. The clock face is 7.75" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures.
The clock is too delicate and heavy for shipping safely via normal shipping options, so this clock is for local pick-up in Wilmington, DE. You can also arrange for the packing/shipping of the clock yourself thru our local UPS store. You could also use a blanket ship company like Antiques Express. I would pack out the inside of the clock in this situation, rest would be your carrier's responsibility. You need to understand that a blanket ship company can take 6-8 weeks to deliver an item.
We will also offer to deliver the clock to within 250 miles of Wilmington, DE one way. Price would be $.60 per mile for the round trip delivery plus any tolls/parking fees. So, for example, if 40 miles to your property and $10 in tolls, it would be $58 (2*40*$.60+$10) for seller to deliver item to you.
As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Please ask any questions relating to this matter, before you decide to purchase it.
Make sure that this clock meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned, there is a 10% restocking fee to do so. So, please carefully review all the attached pictures, ask all the questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the item on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. Don't be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions!
