This crew neck sweater with incredibly huge balloon sleeves is by Tami, and has an amazing silvery shimmer from the lurex content in it. The shimmer is almost a silvery blue, it seems to reflect the colors of things near it; it reminds us of aurora borealis sort of sheen.

We love the length of this, too, made at a time when hip huggers were becoming the waistline of choice, this longer length could be worn with them or it could be tucked in to a natural waistline skirt, and look great either way.

Label: Tami

Made in British Crown Colony of Hong Kong

50% lurex 50% polyester

Around hem: 32” at rest up to 38”

This has a 5/8” wide ribbed knit neckline finish and a zipper at the center of the back of the neck. YKK. Nylon.

About the Tami label: early references indicate that Tami Sportswear (and its subsidiary Tami, Inc) made skirts that were often paired with sweaters from Darlene Knitwear. In the 1960s through at least 1976, Tami sportswear/Tami Inc was owned by Athlone; newspaper articles mention the men who ran the company.

In the 1960s Tami Sportswear had its factory in San Francisco, on one of those alleys south of Market. Terry Glynn, was the designer.

Thanks to the Vintage Fashion Guild for the background information.

This is in incredible condition with the only flaw being a single skinny knit line, it is NOT a run, we checked it, but it does sort of have the appearance of it. It is located on the back (wearer’s) right shoulder near the zipper, running up and down, not side to side. It is stable, it does not “run.” We’ve tried to capture it in a photo and have included it here. Be sure to look at the full back images, and compare to the close up, it's really not readily visible.

The shimmery finish is perfect for holiday wear whether it be in person or for a zoom meet up!
