Here is a really neat vintage sportswear item, a sleeveless, V-neck, zip-front jumpsuit designed for the ski slopes, made in Austria with the labels:
"Wintersportmodelle" "Karl Bsik Wien" "Arlberg Keilhose"
"BSIK Austria 52% Virgin Wool 43% Nylon 5% Lycra"
with the American shop it was marketed through: "Donaldson's Ski Shop"
and down the center back seam a little size tag of "12".
We are estimating this to be from the 1960s considering the font and label style of the Donaldson's tag, as well as because of the body hugging silhouette, (think Bullet Bras and Ann-Margret...); it could be earlier.
The bodice has front darts from the side as well as the waistline; the back bodice has waistline darts, too. The bodice is lined in black, so can be worn unzipped a bit, to cool down once you're off the slopes, or to show off whatever cute top you have on underneath it (or not).
This has a tiny set-in waist line with 7 skinny belt loops (can hold up to a 1" wide belt) that really make a contrasting color belt POP very cool when on. It looks great with red, doesn't it? White, bright yellow, neon pink or lime green would be dramatic, too .
The black and red belts shown with it is for styling only; they are NOT included.
The legs are tapered with stirrup bottoms to keep these fabulous pants in your ski boots; they'd work perfectly with your fashion boots, too.
Bust: 19" across under the arms ( ~ 38" )
Waist: ~ 25-26"
Hips ( ~ 8" down from waist) 36-38"
Length from center back of the neck to waist: 14"
Waistline to front crotch: 9.5"
Waistline to back crotch: 14"
This is in fabulous, excellent, ready to wear condition; it has been freshly dry-cleaned.
This is beautifully made, it should be toasty warm for chilly winter weather, it is absolutely adorable, and very fashion forward with its super sleek body-hugging silhouette.
Although originally intended for ski-wear, this would be terrific for snowboarding, or just sledding, too.
Donaldson's, also known as The L. S. Donaldson Company, Minneapolis, Minnesota is a now defunct department store company that was founded in 1883 by Scottish Immigrants.
Thanks to Wikipedia for their following information on Karl Wien:
Karl Wien (10 September 1906 - c. 14 June 1937) was a German mountaineer.
Born in Würzburg, Wien was the son of a university professor, and became a lecturer himself in the geography department of Munich University. His mountaineering career began in the Alps, where with Willi Welzenbach he made the first ascent of the north face of the Grossglockner. Outside Europe he made a number of visits to Africa and the Himalaya, including Paul Bauer's 1931 attempt on Kangchenjunga, and a 1936 expedition to Sikkim during which he made the first ascent of Siniolchu.
In 1937 Karl Wien was chosen to lead a German expedition to Nanga Parbat, the first since ten climbers had died on the mountain in 1934. Some time between the 14th and 16th of June, Wien was camped with fifteen other climbers at Camp IV, below Rakhiot Peak, when it was overwhelmed by a massive avalanche. All sixteen men were killed in what remains the worst single disaster ever to occur on an eight thousand metre peak.
Keilhose translates loosely to "wedge pair of pants"
Wein also translates to Vienna, so the label COULD refer to Karl Bsik OF Vienna, rather than a company named Karl Wein (inspired by the German mountaineer).
