This gorgeous formal event skirt is made of a fabulous novelty weave jacquard with the look of embroidery and velvet flocking on a sparkling sheer black ground.
Labeled Malbe Original, and with a 9 in one upper corner, and a 10 in the other, this is quite tiny and measures:
up to 24" waist
1" wide waistband
40" long from the bottom of the waist band to the hem
8" down from the waistband, for approximate hip: 36"
78" sweep, however the lining's sweep is only 54"
There are no fiber labels; we believe the shell of the skirt is a rayon or rayon blend, perhaps; it does have a nice firm (not stiff) body. Also, this is fully lined in a small wale faille that feels like acetate.
There is a BBST blue on white label in the underside of one of the lining's seams. The waistband has 3 hooks and eyes for a top closure; there is a side seam zipper, 7 1/2" Coats and Clarks, with metal pull and plastic teeth.
The back of the skirt has double darts from the waistband for a nice, smooth fit, while the front has marvelous deep pleats in the front to disguise hidden pockets on each side, as well as a deep center pleat that lends an almost gaucho inspired, lounge/hostess look to the skirt.
Has the swishing sound of taffeta; we love that!
Skirts like these are classics; we estimate this to be from the 1960s with the pleat effects and nylon zipper teeth; the hooks and eyes hint at earlier rather than later manufacture.
We love these worn with sheer white blouses with huge collars and enormous puffy sleeves, or they're quite sleek with a simple knit shell in black and fabulous jewelry. Perfect to wear for a formal event, whether it be wedding, anniversary, resort holiday or benefit.
Excellent condition with no flaws; we have not had it dry cleaned, so are pricing with a cleaning allowance in mind.
