Here is a neat old pair of LEATHER ice skates with stacked leather heel and pretty triangular cut-out work along the openings.
Labeled "Canadian Flyer Silver Brazed" and "9 1/3 Union Steel Tempered Union Hdwe, CO, Torrington, Conn" with a three-leaf clover or spade logo with the letters "U" "H" and "Co" in each leaf. There is also a triple leaf clover, or spade punched into the metal base under the foot, and "Canadian Flyer" and a wavy design is stamped on the bottom of the sole leather.
These measure 10 1/2" from toe to heel, 3" wide across the tread, and 5 1/2" up and over the ball of the foot (on the outside of the skate).
The skates have toe picks, of course.
The insides are lined with black flecked red flannel, while the inside of the tongue and insole are plain red flannel.
Estimated 1950s era, possibly earlier.
Condition: the exteriors have been polished but do show wear; the inner ivory edging is flaking off. Please see all close up photos.
These remind me of a pair my mom used to hang on an old sled outside of our front door at Christmas time, with red laces, a pair of red mittens, and tons of evergreens and poinsettias ~ it was very welcoming, very pretty and very festive!
These are sturdy and could easily be worn, but we love the idea of keeping them to use for display and decoration.
