This classic oriental jacket, sometimes referred to as a Tang Zhuang is cut with the sleeves and bodice in one piece; with the only seams being the underarm (sideseams) and center back seam, and the seam that attaches the collar, of course.
This feels like a natural fiber; cotton, or maybe linen, and it's lined in muslin.
Labeled as an "M", the measurements are more like a large to extra large:
Chest/ bust 48”
Neck point to sleeve hem 28.5” long
12” around the sleeve hem opening
Design features include:
Mandarin (stand up) collar
Slit finished side seams
Large patch pockets
This has straight line knot closures (rather than a fancy frog closure).
The "button" is on the left, indicating this as women's, however, these basic jackets were often worn by both men and women. The medium label suggests men's sizing rather than women's.
Excellent condition. Freshly laundered, ready to wear.
Please note: this is a very deep, dark shade of black, we have lightened many of the images to show details better.
These jackets are difficult to date as the elements of it are so basic, and used over and over in manufacturing.
Because of the use of the M size tag, we're comfortable dating this to the 1970s, but it could very well be much earlier.
