This beautiful Celtic green satin pillbox hat with satin flower rose detail is labeled Bernard Workman.
It features wired (bendable) satin leaves that trail along the front of the hat, intermingled with super soft netting (silk, possibly cotton) in a lovely shade of taupe.
Although labeled "Bernard Workman for Wolf's of Des Moines, Iowa", the easily recognizable signature of an embroidered rhinestone gentleman indicates that Alfred Weil was the designer of this lovely hat. By the early 1950s Bernard Workman hats were respected for their quality and were referred to in fashion articles alongside names like Lily Dache; they are now considered to be quite collectible.
(a warm thank you to Jonathan Walford of Kickshaw Productions and The Vintage Fashion Guild for this background identification.)
This measures 18" around the inside, it is a narrow one and 1/8" deep.
There are tiny combs on each side.
This is lined in a gorgeous ivory and gold leaf brocade which is pristine.
This is in excellent condition with the exception of a break in the netting which has been mended, and is located between the second and third leaves, however, it gathers into the rest of the netting there nicely and is not readily visible.
Have a holiday event to attend? Yuletide Services? a Christmas concert? Holiday brunch with the girls? This deep green color is perfect for the holiday season, and contrasts beautifully with berry red, snowy white, or glamorous gold.
