Vintage 1940s Aviator or Motorcycle Leather Cap with Fur Trim
This aviator cap is made of brown leather with a tan flannel lining and a curve of fur at the front and center that can flip down or up.
The fur measures 6" across and is 2" at it's widest, curved to pointed ends. There is a skinny area of wear on the fur about 1" long.
This has three seams over the top of the head for a nice, snug, smooth fit.
There are two grommets on each side at the ear area, we assume to allow the pilot to hear. Although 3 of the 4 are visible from the exterior side, none are visible from the lining side.
There is a leather chin strap, and the right side has a snap on it, but the matching snap is not on the hat itself or the other strap, which seems odd to us. The snap is stamped "UNITED CARR"
Measurement: the center seam is 15" from behind the front fur flap to the back bound finished "hem."
This is estimated WWII era, from the 1940s.
We see that some motorcycle enthusiasts wear these when they ride their bikes.
Nice and cozy with the flannel to keep ears warm, and the leather to break the wind (and/or keep you dry).
