This antique tapestry with a Spanish theme is rich with content and color, including claret red, chocolate brown, light powder blue, olive green, harvest gold, lots of neutral beige and tans, and a surprising amount of plum and lavender.
This measures 19" up and down x 39" across.
The design integrates three scenes:
*to the far left, a group of Spanish dancers.
* The center appears to be a flower vendor with two shoppers (dressed in their fantastic lace mantillas),
*and to the right, a pretty woman being led on a horse, with a bullfighter in his matador attire in the background.
We love the intricate details on this, from the fringe on the horse, to the water dripping from the fountain, and from the braid trim on the dancer's trousers to the arched buildings in the background: everything is executed superbly.
Condition: we have found two stains:
*one measures ~ 7/8" up and down by ~ 1/4" wide, it is located 1" down from the top border and 8" in from the right side's border.
*The other measures 1 1/4" up and down by ~ 1" wide and is located 3 and 1/4" in from the right side's border and 4 and 1/4" up from the bottom border. They can both be found if searching for them, however, since the design is so busy, neither one is distracting to the overall image.
This is stamped Made in Belgium on the back.
The top has a selvage finish, the sides have 1/2" deep fringed edges, the bottom has a 3/8" fringed edge.
