This old Halloween mask is kind of scary, kind of creepy, and very, very cool.
This is stamped "Germany" in red on the back. We believe this to be a post (WWI) piece, when many holiday items were hand made in Germany.
Made of a sort of composite paper (some would say papier or paper mache) molded into 3-D shape with long extended nose. This has hand painted blush, lips, eyebrows and hair.
He has coarse black hair (which really is kind of creepy because it feels like real pony or horse tail or mane hair) that is stapled to the mask under his nose as a mustache, with more below his lower lip for a goatee or Van Dyke (Vandyck) beard.
This has slit openings for the eyes and the mouth is cut out as well.
This has no elastic band attached any longer (to assist in placement on the face), there is no stick that attaches under the chin either. We used a black thread tied around the head to hold it to our mannequin, and that worked very well for display purposes.
We consider this to be in fragile condition: there are a few tears along the edges, and each upper corner is a bit bent, please inspect all close up photos.
We are selling this as a COLLECTIBLE, not a toy, and our pricing reflects that. Add this to your scary treasures, and use it to help create a fabulous autumnal holiday display on your Halloween party buffet table or mantel...or, this would be terrific holiday decor in a vintage shop, or antique market.
(The witch mask in the final photo has been sold. This is for the pirate/devil mask only.)
This is very lightweight, but in order to be shipped safely, will need to be carefully packed in a box.
