Here is a lovely antique petit point handbag estimated to date from the 1930s to 1940s, although a dealer has contacted us to suggest it could be as early as the turn of the century (1900s).
It is features a scenic landscape design surrounded by roses on each side of the purse.
The frame is a golden-tone floral with twining leaves in a 3-dimensional front, while the back is stamped in a more geometric design. This has a kiss-lock closure with tiny pointed cabochons of polished ivory, or perhaps horn.
This has a circular link chain handle that is 12" long.
The bag is about 7" wide and about 7" high; there is a band (1.25" wide) that runs along the sides and bottom that adds a bit of depth to the purse.
There is piping that borders that widening strip; much of it has worn away: please see all photos.
This has the original lining which has a self-pocket along one side; the other side of the lining is stained. We have not had this cleaned, we are selling it as found.
Truly a lovely collectible.
