These gorgeous cream glazed floral and leaf design candle holders add grace and style to any table setting or fireplace mantle.

They are stamped hand painted from Japan; we believe they are Noritake (see additional research below).

There is overall glazing evident, we think that adds to their charm. There are no chips or cracks.

We are unsure of the age of these, they are AT LEAST from the 1950s, but more likely 1930s or possibly even 1920s.

2 and 7/8" tall

3 and 5/8" across bottom

1 and 7/8" across top (from outer rim edge to outer rim edge)

7/8" opening for candle

Each one weighs 4.4 ounces, so 8.8 ounces for both without packaging.

These would be beautiful as part of the décor on a bridal reception table, as part of a centerpiece (or mantle décor) for the holidays, or for a special Friday night dinner for two. They would also be part of a perfect wedding gift for a young vintage loving couple, add them to a vintage tablecloth and a couple of vintage champagne glasses.

Research notes for trying to identify and date:

We are pretty sure these are Noritake: even though this is a double M (an M within an M) and has a laurel instead of a full wreath, this is remarkably similar to other Noritake marks.

The "M in a wreath" mark was used between c 1914 until 1940.

After the WWI (1918) most back stamps was changed to state "Japan" or "Made in Japan". Still the word Nippon was infrequently used even after 1921.

"M" standing for "Morimura" in a wreath, crowned by "Hand painted" and below, NIPPON. Date: Introduced in 1911 and possible in use until 1921. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake back stamp for importing is 1911. Noritake first produced dinnerware for the American market in 1914. A piece of the dinnerware in the Noritake factory in Nagoya shows that the pattern was The Sedan (11292), a white body with cream border with a small spray of flowers. It bears a typical back stamp of Noritake, the letter "M" in a wreath and the words "Hand painted."
