Cool old Donald Duck figurine made of chalk-ware, painted in all-over yellow with red and black accents, and sprinkled with a bit of glitter.
Stands about 7" tall.
Estimated 1940s vintage; often chalkware figurines such as this were prizes for carnival games.
Thanks to the Disney Mouse Links website for the following background and trivia concerning Donald Duck:
He is a Disney creation who got his start on June 9, 1934 in a Silly Symphony cartoon titled 'The Wise Little Hen'.
In the 1940's Donald Duck had more cartoons than Mickey Mouse; with over 128 to his credit. These don't include the ones that did include the famous Mouse.
Our favorite duck is well known for his attire; wearing simply a sailor shirt and hat, with no pants in sight. Donald even has a middle name: Donald Fauntleroy Duck.
This is an excellent collectible. Chalkware can chip easily, so we're thrilled to find a sought-after Donald in such great condition.
Old Disney is a delightful retro vintage theme for a kid's room, especially with such fabulous vivid colors; he'd look great as a bookend for some Whitman's, or on a shelf with other whimsical Disney collectibles.
