Lovely wood cigar box for La Palina, date stamped January 30 1940 on the back, and "Excellente" stamped along the front.
Measures 8 3/4" by 5 1/2", and is 1 7/8" deep.
This is a standard nailed wood box, trimmed. The condition of the box itself is rather poor, with a darkened interior with tears along the edge, and the muslin hinge is nearly completely torn through; it still hangs on at this point. However the graphics, the art, is wonderful... with an exotic lady in a mantilla on the front and interior; the inside lithograph is in amazing condition with vibrant, brilliant colors still.
We love to use these for treasure boxes ~ in the past we've kept crayons in old cigar boxes, (not anymore!) and have tossed keys in them ~ they hold sewing supplies with style ~ and of course many turn these into purses, although this one seems a bit fragile for that.
We love the bright yellow top; the red and turquoise colors look great together.
