HERE’S A RARE ARTIST-SIGNED “FORT” ORIGINAL VINTAGE 1960S-1970S MODERN MIDCENTURY HANDMADE COPPER-WIRE CLOISONNE ENAMEL-ON-COPPER ART PLAQUE THAT DISPLAYS A LARGE FULL-BODIED STANDING CAT FILLED WITH OTHER DESIGNS INCLUDING TWO RED ENAMELED BIRDS, FLOWERS, GEOMETRIC SHAPES, AND A CENTRAL RED HEART LADEN WITH GREEN JEWELS!

Please Note: This vintage artist-signed “Fort” cloisonné enamel plaque still retains its original color-coordinated double-matted linen and fabric surround as well as blue and gold painted wooden frame.

Dimensions: The plaque itself measures approximately ten and five eighths inches (10 5/8”) in height by seven and five eighths inches (7 5/8”) in width. The overall measurements of the blue and gold painted wood frame are approximately eighteen inches (18”) in height by fifteen inches (15”) in width.

Signature: Signed in the bottom right corner of the plaque itself with an artist’s signature made with copper wires to match the cloisonné enameling “FORT” (see photos).

Also, Please Note: Although no biographical information can be provided about the artist “Fort”, the cloisonné enamel-on-copper art plaque being sold here is similar in concept to examples of modern cloisonné created during the midcentury time period in the Los Angeles area. This brings into focus the fact that the artist “Fort” was part of a larger group of enamel artists practicing in Southern California who became known for their work in modern cloisonné. It seems almost as though there was a specific interest in and particular stylization of modern cloisonné by a group of enamel artists that did not take place anywhere else in the country. Aside from the artist “Fort”, some of the other artists who promoted this artistic medium were Dorothy Kirk, Edith Meyer, Arthur Harvey, Helen Hery, and Eleanor Forrestal (known as E’Nore).

Condition: Generally excellent and clean condition with minor age-related dust and a few small unobtrusive craze lines along the bottom right outer edge area (not bad). And the gold-blue painted wooden frame has a few small scuffs (again, not bad). Overall, still a true beauty!
