This splendid Swedish writing desk is one of the nicest pieces of antique pine furniture we have ever offered for sale. It has spent the last twenty years in this dealer’s personal collection.
A top shelf bordered by a scalloped gallery has two shallow lap-joined drawers beneath. The bold cylinder roll has oak bread-boarded ends for stability and opens on its original lock and key to reveal four drawers and a central cubby with locking door within. The integral oak-banded pine writing surface slides out 11” to provide a generous desktop 21.5” deep at the ideal height of 30”. This sits on a four-legged base with a single full width hand-cut dovetailed drawer in the front apron. The legs are of pitch pine, as sturdy as oak, which provide strength and a nice colour contrast with the rest of the piece. This desk is beautifully made and is truly beautiful to look at. All locks are in working order.
