A Lawton Duplicator for hand copying manufactured by Hektograph Mfg & Dup Co...has instructions for use under base..being sold as a display item only..
from what I've read, this process was introduced around 1876...in order to make copies, a written or typed master copy using a special ink was made , this copy was then pressed face down on the tray which contained gelatin..gelatin was used as it didn't dry fast and would hold the ink..the ink from the master copy would transfer to the gelatin..copies were made by pressing blank paper on the gelatin using a roller..
wood case displays areas of staining from use, the inside lid has a few ripples to interior area, the lock clasp and hinges have some discoloration..measures 1 3/4"high, 12 1/2" X 9 1/2"wide...neat old hand copier to add to your collection..
