This is volume 1 or a 2 volume set, "The Great Rebellion; A history of the Civil War in the United States" written by J T Headley; published by Hurlbut, Williams & Company, copyright 1863...contains numerous fine steel engravings, 2 of which are the Union Generals (photo 4), the other the Rebel Officers (photo 5)...I took a photo of the introduction that gives a summary of the volume (photo 3)...

hard back cover displays wear, corner bumps, crack at front & back board along spine, boards still attached, front board loose, lots of spine wear; book is complete, all pages attached, contains 506 pages...interior pages having some water stain at beginning pages, some poges having foxing, finger smudges, light age toning to most pages...I did not note any page tears or creasing; book measures 9 1/2" X 6 1/2", 2"thick.....great book you will enjoy having.....
