Here is an extremely uncommon 1800s Victorian blue opalescent satin glass sugar shaker, in a spectacular swirl ribbed / fluted pattern. The most amazing feature about this shaker is that the top diagonal portion of ribbing is traveling in the opposite direction of the opalescent swirl, and the bottom "mum" base ribbing is vertical and the opalescent striping is diagonal like the top portion. The lower portion of the shaker is slightly ballooned out and called a "chrysanthemum base" These shakers are also called sifters, dusters, dredges & muffineers and were used to hold sugar, spices, grated cheese, and candy bits. This magnificent shaker measures approx. 4 3/4" tall, 3 1/4" across at the widest section and is in excellent condition with the exception of some minor rough spots along inside rim, and wear and tarnish to screw cap.
