This antique silk scarf featuring Buffalo Bill Cody for the Cody Stampede Wyoming Rodeo, is extremely rare. I do not find another example offered, even at the Buffalo Bill Museum. It measures 29 x 29 inches. This belongs in a Western Museum or with an advanced collector. Ideal for framing.

The fabric is light as a feather, tissue weight, sheer silk and strong. This piece was likely made as a souvenir of the Cody Wyoming Stampede Rodeo featuring a Buffalo Bill appearance. Many have been re-issued as commemorative items. THIS is the real McCoy!

The Cody Stampede started in 1919. I use this information to help date the scarf. This is not pinpoint dating. The scarf is circa 1919. It is NOT a later piece or a reproduction.

Images are hand tinted with details in red, blue, light yellow, shades of gray and black. Color is excellent throughout with no fading or bleeding. The center is one layer. The edges are two layers, folded so the images match perfectly on either side. The edges are machine stitched to the center.

The center features a large oval with the image of Buffalo Bill in show costume. In each corner is the image of: 1. The Irma Hotel, home of Buffalo Bill, 2. A cowboy riding a steer with his hat flying off, 3. A cowboy riding a bucking bronco with a saddle on the horse, 4. Image of Shosone Canyon.

Edges are printed with traditional Native American symbols with a teepee in each corner.

Condition is above excellent. Color is excellent throughout with no fading or bleeding. Note: one hole along the border that measures 1 inch X 3/4 inches and goes through both layers. There are no other holes or tears. There is a light pink spot on the white part of the circle on the image of the cowboy riding the steer. This is likely color transfer from the scarf. There are a few slight pulls.

Amazing condition for silk of this age. Authentic one of a kind; with no others known to be for sale or found with hours of searching.

This would frame beautifully and be the highlight of an advanced Western Memorabilia collection. It is being stored in acid free paper.
