Beautiful, late 1940s rayon dress, unworn / dead stock with original tags. The size is medium. This is drop dead wonderful! Measurements: Bust 34, waist 26, hip up to 42 (very full skirt!) Across upper back 15-1/2 inches, length 45 inches with a 1-1/2 inch hem allowance.
Fabulous! End of Year Clearance Sale for a short time. Don't miss out on this amazing dress
Fabric: 100%, flowing, matte finish, lighter to medium weight. Colors: very, very light neutral green, lavender and sage green.
Features: One piece, sleeveless, unlined dress has button front and side metal zipper AND the original belt. Button tab hidden under the Peter Pan collar. Buttons on top stitched placket front, are MOP / Mother of Pearl.
Bodice, both front and back has row after row of narrow tuck / top stitch detail. Not a stitch out of place! Self fabric, stiffened belt, has grommets with very narrow ribbons made of the same rayon fabric of the dress in sage and lavender. These make a great bow tie closure and also make the belt adjustable.
Skirt is very full and joins the bodice at the natural waistline. Skirt is constructed of 9 separate tiers and THEN has permanent knife pleating. AMAZING. It flows beautifully. The construction and flow makes it perfect for dancing! It feels wonderful.
This is an extraordinary find. Never worn and so era specific. This was most likely a Salesman's Sample; full size example of what could be ordered. The tags have that kind of information.
Embroidered label inside and, on the store tag is: Carlyle. 100% Rayon as well as the store inventory tag.
Condition: Unworn, no holes, weak seams, flaws in fabric or color. Even the belt is mint. NOTE: one shoulder has some dark marks from storage. I am confident these will come out with dry cleaning or hand wash.
Tag notes that this can be dry cleaned or washed.
A real treasure for a true collector! My uncle was a traveling salesman in the late 1940s until about 1965. He would travel to small towns in the Northwest, in a car. The back seat and trunk were packed with sample dresses. The big yellow tag on this dress looks very similar to the ones on his inventory. This was in the day before centralized, inventory "market".
