Rare pair of mid 1940s, Salesman's Sample indigo blue denim work pants. Made in miniature right down to the last rivet. Mint condition and extremely hard to find.
They are 13 inches TALL and were sent out by Big Mac for J.C. Penny's. What a fun piece for an advertising display. If you collect vintage clothing this is a real find!
The lady whose estate these came from worked at a J.C. Penny's clothing store during World War II. She told me that the company used these as samples because fabric was rationed. They were sent through the mail; because salesmen were rationed as well.
These are in mint condition except for some very minor oxidation of the brass snap. They have been in a cedar chest all these years. They are 13 inches tall on the outside seam. The waist measures 7 inches across for a total of 14 inches around. Even the tag is tiny! There is a 12 inch ruler and a quarter in the pictures for size perspective.
There are 4 belt loops, all top stitched in dark orange thread. The seams are double stitched at the sides and around the pockets, just as the big ones would have been. The pockets are top stitched to imitate the pocket openings. The pockets have rivets both front and back.
The snap closure says "BIG MAC" and it functions fine. This is a rare example of a true sample; just as they were to come from the factory. The FLY has no zipper.
No damage. Tag: PENNY'S / BIG MAC / U.S. Reg. Pat. Off. / Sanforized / shrinkage not in excess of 1%.
These are clean and fresh. The deep indigo color and fabric sizing are still immaculate. The ONLY thing to mention is the minor oxidation of the snap and a short weave flaw under the right back pocket. Besides being a rare find …. these are the cutest.
