1940s basketball champion necklace charm for YGP; gold plated with gold filled chain. Mystery high school charm in the shape of a basket ball. Let me know if you can solve the mystery! From the Depression Era, this item is 75 years old and must have been a coveted piece for some high school student.
Charm is 1/2 inch in diameter. Gold filled chain is 29 inches end to end.
The hollow charm is gold plated over brass and is engraved with 19 and 40 (dates) over the "stitching" and CHAMPIONS below the stitching. The other side is etched with: to B YGP. This is an acronym for an unknown public school. Presumably a high school. This is an oldie!
The charm has lots of wear to the gold plating showing the base metal beneath. The chain is marked 1/20th of 12 kt and has a spring catch closure.
Chain is strong and is not polished. I will be happy to polish it for you if you like.
