Massive carved rose agate brooch; pre-1948, a spectacular 26.6 grams and in minty condition. One of a kind, Artist Created piece.
Had carved from a single large slice of light, honey colored banded stone this rose is held with a heavy Mexican Silver setting which is strong and well made. It polishes up like sterling. It is not marked sterling. It weighs a total of 26.6 grams and measures a massive; 2-1/4 inches x 2-3/8 inches and is 1/4 inch thick. This is a LARGE brooch.
This natural, untreated stone is semi transparent. The layers show a gorgeous pattern, from cream to light honey.
The stone is one slice and then hand carved. It was made by an artisan sometime before 1948 when pieces from Mexico had the eagle mark. The heavy silver setting has a single sphere accent at one side. The stone is securely held with prongs. Ideal to hold a heavier weight scarf in place or to be the focal point of a vintage jacket.
It is marked on the back: MEXICO SILVER. I have shown the brooch on a medium weight scarf that is draped on my mannequin so you can get an idea of it size. The scarf is for display only.
This piece of jewelry fills the palm of my hand; see pic!
Completely natural stone, beautifully carved, lavishly applied silver setting; this brooch shows no damage. Lightly polished metal, completely gorgeous, natural stone. Let me know if you want the metal polished to high shine.
