Art Deco Necklace with a carved Carnelian Agate pendant from the 1930s. Chain is 21 inches long. Agate is 1-1/4 inch × 1 inch. Chain is marked 1/20 of 12 k Gold Filled and Automade.
Gold tone chain is very fine and fluid. The gold tone metal bail holds perfectly to the chain.
The carved carnelian is a 5 sided, very Art Deco cut. The top has a whisper of a dome. The back is flat. All sides are perfectly polished to show the variation of color in the bands.. Just lovely. Smooth and soothing to the touch. Some pictures show it held up to the light.
Though often a solid color, carnelian can also be banded. This pendant is a great example. When banded, it would be jointly classified as both Agate and Carnelian. Carnelian is an ancient gemstone.
The chain is strong and the simple, slip on clasp works perfectly and holds well. The clasp is marked Automade. It has not been polished so; it has a naturally acquired "antique" look. On one side of the pendant is a teeny, tiny, itty, bitty, ping. This does not show when worn.
Decades old, entirely hand crafted and so gorgeous.
