Occupied Japan night light; bisque porcelain colonial couple: Works. Measurements: approximately 7 inches X 5-1/2 inches and 1-3/4 inches deep.
NOTE: The pictures show the lamp ON and OFF. The light shows through the porcelain near the woman's waist.
A rare find with wonderful color and superb condition.
This hollow, 3 dimensional lamp was designed to be a night light. An opening in the back is covered by a metal plate. This opening holds the light bulb. Inside is marked in red ink: Patent Applied for Made in Occupied Japan.
The metal covering has two small "legs" so the piece could sit upright. One one side is a switch. The cord comes out the bottom, between the two legs.
Very detailed, lovely semi translucent porcelain is poured as a colonial couple, in front of a garden fence and leafy tree. All figures are in 3-dimension. The frame surrounding the scene is curling, graceful leaf forms.
The frame appears to have been air brushed painted. The couple, fence and tree are hand painted. An unusual piece indeed.
Everything works perfectly. The "works" including the cord are all original. I strongly suggest the electrical works be completely checked out by a professional if you intend to use it.
There is no damage to this piece other than some scratches to the paint on the metal backing.
