Idaho advertising calendar from 1934 with a print of a woman and man fly fishing called THE CALL OF ROMANCE by western artist: Ray C. Strang. Made for Davis & Davis / Groceries, Tires, and Oil / Meridian Idaho.
Wonderful Western theme art work. This is a rare beauty.
This is a very hard to find print. It is made even more rare as it has an intact calendar from the Depression era from a sparsely populated state.
This is under shrink wrap so, glare may show in the pictures. It is in ABOVE excellent condition.
The entire piece measures: 17 inches X 8-1/4 inches. The print is attached to the backing and measures: 9-3/8 inches X 6-1/6 inches. The attached, 12 month calendar is 4-1/8 inches x 2-1/8th inches.
A young couple, wearing fishing waders stand in a stream. She has hooked a fish and he is helping her with a net. Terrific print!
Part of the printed signature of the artist can be seen in the lower left corner of the print. At the lower right of the backing is printed: Made in the U.S.A.
Print appears to be mint. Calendar has some rubs to the top border. Factory made hole at the top is intact.
There looks to be some color variation to the upper right area of the backing. Otherwise it is mint. The Art Deco style baking is taupe with decoration in dark brown and gold metallic. There are two pin head size nicks to the bottom of the backing.
