Antique Sioux City Iowa heavy sterling silver souvenir spoon weight 26 grams and is circa 1900. Bowl is engraved with the city name and the numbers: 34-60-109, the significance of these numbers is unknown as to an event in Sioux City. . Measures: 5-7/8 inches tall.
This is a nice, heavy spoon!
Top front of the spoon has the state seal; created in 1847 with images of a citizen soldier standing in a wheat field surrounded by symbols important in early historical Iowa, including farming, mining, and transportation with the Mississippi River in the background. An eagle overhead bears the state motto.
The back handle has images of the state capitol, and images of rope, pick ax and shovel, as well as the word STERLING and a maker's mark I do not recognize.
Bowl of the spoon is etched with SIOUX CITY and a number series: 34-60-109. I have no idea what those numbers refer to.
No bends, dents or signs of significant wear. Edges are crisp. Bowl is smooth and in great shape. It has been polished leaving just a few areas of patina that were there when found.
