Vintage 1930s Pullman Railroad Conductors Valet Brush Railroadiana. This conductors clothing brush was made for the Pullman Railroad circa 1930. It has a Very Clean / unused black bristle brush held by a silver tone metal band. The wood handle is sanded smooth and marked: Pullman Brush Car Scrub Gerts - Lumbard & Co.
A perfect gift for your favorite Railroad collector.
This was used by the Pullman conductor to brush off passenger's coats, hats, seats, and other upholstered furniture on the Pullman cars. The handle is sanded to a point, presumably to pick out bits and pieces from corners and seams on a seat cover or jacket.
It is 2-1/2 inch wide X 9 inches long. The silver tone metal is marked 2 -1/2 inch. The wood handle is marked as noted. Very clean item. The brush shows NO SIGNS of use. There is some minor wear to the pointed end; just from storage.
Obtained from the original owner who was a conductor on Pullman cars in the 1920s. He worked primarily on the Union Pacific line. He finished his career in the late 1960s as a regional supervisor and retired in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Pullman Sleeping Car was invented by George Pullman in 1857. Pullman's railroad coach or sleeper was designed for overnight passenger travel.
