This was used by the Pullman conductor to brush off passenger coats, hats, seats, and other upholstered furniture on the Pullman cars. The handle is sanded to a point, presumably to pick out bits and pieces from corners and seams on a seat cover or jacket.
It is 2-1/2 inch wide X 9 inches long. The silver tone metal is marked 2 -1/2 inch. The wood handle is marked as noted. Very clean item. The brush shows NO SIGNS of use. There is some minor wear to the pointed end; just from storage.
Obtained from the original owner who was a conductor in the 1920s and 1930s. The gentleman started with the Pullman Railroad as a conductor in the early 1920s. He worked primarily on the Union Pacific line. He finished his career in the late 1960s as a regional supervisor and retired in Salt Lake City, Utah. Complete provenance will be provided to the buyer upon request.
The Pullman Sleeping Car was invented by George Pullman in 1857. Pullman's railroad coach or sleeper was designed for overnight passenger travel.
