This little box was perhaps a birthday or Christmas present. CAREFULLY treasured. It does not look as if it was ever used.
It is a wonderful example of early American folk art made during the late Victorian era. If lightly rubbed with linseed oil the images would be more distinct. I leave that to the new owner.
What a charming find for a collector of candy containers or pyrography.
Note: For those new to this collecting genre, pyrography is the process or art of producing designs on wood, leather, or other materials by using heated tools. It is wonderful American folk art; first cousin to tramp art.
