Crib Quilt Tumbling Block Pattern 1930s - 1940s Fabrics. Measures 52 inches X 43 inches. It is in mint condition. This is a real delight to offer.
Fabrics are 100% cotton. The front and edges date from the 1930s and 1940s. There are juvenile prints that are so charming and, feed / flour sack prints with classic prints. There are floral prints (so wonderful) and some shirting material. (some of the shirting fabrics have a rayon thread) The edges are banded with a print of tiny flowers. The blocks appear to be hand pieced.
The backing fabric is a yellow and white cotton with little tiny checks. This is a later fabric than those used on the front. I believe the front was pieced by hand and then put away. Brought out from storage about 1960, it was finished with a sewing machine
There is no filling so, this was intended to be used as a cover or a summer quilt. The work is excellent. The fabrics are a peek into history. There are well over 50 different vintage printed cottons used.
Mint condition. From a smoke free home. You could easily open one end, turn it inside out, add a backing and then hand quilt the pieces. What a fun project!
