1920s Chinese Sewing Basket Full of Goodies. Basket is 8-1/2 inches across and 3-1/2 inches tall. Woven, lacquered basket is in excellent condition. See all the pictures with highlights of the contents listed below.
The lid is decorated with 6 old brass Chinese coins, glass beads, a double red tassel that has bullion thread and a blue cobalt ring that serves as the handle.
Among many other things the contents are; a decorated wood darning egg, 11 spools of thread on wood. The amber colored spool is silk and is 90% full. (50 yards) .
A pair of fancy metal and rhinestone, celluloid buttons (one has missing stones), other celluloid, plastic, bone and mother of pearl buttons and some beautiful silk covered buttons that I think are Victorian and were never used. Buttons date from 1900-1940s. This basket collected items for decades!
There is a folder of German made "egg eyed" steel needles in four sizes. Package shows some stains and wear. Needles are great. Circa 1910 or so. The folder of steel pins is over 1/2 full. A 2 cent postage stamp was also found inside.
Two belt buckles; a silver tone Art Deco and a mother of pearl that has a chip on one corner. These are circa 1930 or so.
There is even a little photograph of a mustached Daddy and two little children from the turn of the century. "Vernie" is written on the back. So cute!
Lots of pictures. These items are clean and the basket is in great condition with only the ends of the tassel showing wear. Send any questions.
