NILS HANS CHRISTIANSEN R.A.C.
A remarkable painting of a village scene in a blizzard by Nils Hans Christiansen, one of the best Danish landscape artists of his time
Christensen was born in Esbjerg, Jutland in 1850 and died in England in 1922. He came to England at the behest of the Prince of Wales and Princess Alexandra for their wedding. He was granted a grace and favour apartment by Queen Victoria at Windsor.
He is best known for his winter landscapes and he exhibited at the Royal Academy of Copenhagen. Good examples of his snowscapes have fetched over £3,000 at auction.
In good original condition, would benefit from a light clean. Sold unframed. There is an erroneous inscription verso dated 1936 and suggesting it is a Dutch landscape.
