Jacques MARTIN (1844-1919)
Lyonnais School c1895 Follower of Renoir.
A sensual portrait showing the influence of Renoir by the Lyon artist Jaques Martin. The skin tones, saturated use of colour and softly fused composition are characteristics of both Renoir and Martin.
Martin exhibited mainly in Lyon and Paris. In 1894 he was selected to exhibit at the World Exhibition, it is from this period that this portrait dates. The sitter’s details are inscribed in pencil verso but are unfortunately illegible.
