Gabriel GRIFFON (1866-1938)
A delightful French Impressionist period landscape painting of a woman leaning against a tree in a dappled woodland glade. Confidently painted, with a fairly heavy impasto and using the fluidity of the paint to great effect. The work is signed and dated 27th April 1905.
“Griffon enjoyed placing figures in landscapes and reduced the composition to a symphony of harmonious brightly coloured brush strokes” (Gerald Schurr’s book, Lesser Masters)
