Circle of Pierre-Antoine DEMACHY (1723-1807)
18th Century French School.
An attractive painting of animals set in a neoclassical landscape, probably dating to around 1790. Inscribed verso on a replacement stretcher is “De Proisy”. This has probably been incorrectly transferred from the original canvas or stretcher by a restorer. There is no listed painter of this name. The closest I can find is De Machy.
Pierre-Antoine DEMACHY (1723-1807) is age appropriate and painted genre scenes set in classical landscapes.
There is a further added inscription attributing this painting to the 1600s.
Condition: The canvas has been lined and mounted on a replacement stretcher. There are signs of overpainting to the lower corners and the base of the horses front legs.
