A French hammered and tooled patinated Art Nouveau metal box with stylized mythological figures attributed to Alfred Daguet. Circa 1900, the top and sides are set with glass cabochon 'jewels'. Hinged cover and wood lined interior. Alfred-Louis-Achille Daguet, 1875-1942, was a metalsmith who specialized in repoussé metal panels made for application to hinged boxes. His delicately rendered work was enriched with colorful cabochons, giving them a medieval appearance. Daguet, whose workshop was located above Siegfried Bing's famed boutique L'Art Nouveau, provided Bing's shop with metal-clad objets d'art. Famed actress Sarah Bernhardt owned pieces designed by Daguet. His work was exhibited at La Société des Artistes Français in 1903 and 1904.
