A 19th-Century French glazed terracotta pottery pitcher or confit jug. It has 2 handles and a spout. This is an authentic antique piece, called a French cruche or spouted vessel for water or olive oil. It is a lovely mustard yellow color, much coveted. These antique pots were kept in cool cellars and sometimes buried half way in the ground, hence the partial glaze on them. This was prior to refrigeration, of course. They were ubiquitous in 19th-Century Provence, and are highly sought after collectibles today. Beware of modern reproductions!
