A fine English 19th-Century oak tantalus bound with silver. It has the original heavy cut crystal decanters and their stoppers. The key locks the case securely. The decanters are 3.25"Square x 9"H. It would be a lovely addition to a collection or gift. Tantalus, the mortal son of Zeus and Pluto was committed to the underworld for angering the gods. His punishment was to stand knee deep in water with fruit growing above him. Whenever he tried to eat or drink, the fruit and water withdrew from reach. From Tantalus, we get the verb, 'tantalize'.
